FIRE FOE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Always check the system for damage in shipment and always weigh
the unit (less brackets) prior to installation. With the system
at room temperature, check the pressure gauge to be sure
the gauge pointer lies within the green zone. The correct weight
is shown on the nameplate or permanent tag for the appropriate
model. Use an accurate scale, which is regularly certified by
an independent agency. Be sure to weigh this unit at least once
every six (6) months and record the accurate weight on the tag
provided. FIRE FOE is designed and intended only for inside
installation where the unit is not subject to direct weather.
Before installing, carefully calculate the volume of protected
area in cubic feet or cubic meters, with no deductions taken
for installed equipment. To determine cubic volume: multiply
the width times the length times the depth of the area to be
protected. It is appropriate to use more agent than is required.
Never install a FIRE FOE Unit that is rated for less volume
than the hazard that is to be protected. Before installing FIRE
FOE, check the appropriate column on the nameplate or
tag indicating the model and the volume for which it was designed.
FIRE FOE should be mounted on the ceiling or horizontally
on a wall as close to the ceiling as possible, but no more than
6 inches below the ceiling.
The enclosure overhead (ceiling) is appropriate for installation
only if the ceiling cannot be opened. In this case, locate FIRE
FOE as near the center of the compartment as possible.
A tube mounting location near the center of the enclosure is
optimal. The extinguisher must be installed so that distance
from the center of the tube to the farthest point in the enclosure
does not exceed the maximum distance shown in the specification
table.
The tube should be aligned so that the black line in the recessed
surface faces toward the center of the enclosure and upward
at a 45° angle (Fig. 3). A tube mounted in the center of
the enclosure on the ceiling may have the black indicator line
pointed upward at 45 degrees to either side of the enclosure.
If the mounting surface is a 3/4" or greater thickness,
then use the 3/16 Stainless Steel # 10 Phillips head screws,
2 3/4" long (Supplied). If the mounting surface is less
than 3/4 " thickness, then the tube should be mounted with
1/4", #20 Stainless Steel bolts and locknuts, 4" long
(Supplied). Note: If using screws, then it is recommended to
have silicone caulking applied to the tips before insertion.
Using one-half of the mounting bracket, the mounting screw or
bolt holes should be located and pilot holes for the screws
(1/8") or through-holes for the bolts (5/16") should
be drilled. Placing the tube in the complete bracket, the tube
is mounted to the ceiling or top of compartment. One bracket
should be placed near each end of the tube, just inside the
metal end sleeves.
WARNING:
NEVER INSTALL FIRE FOE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF A REMOVABLE
COVER, OR ON A DOOR LEADING INTO THE PROTECTED ENCLOSURE. IN
THE EVENT OF AN EXPLOSION, OR THE COVER AND DOOR BEING IN AN
OPEN POSITION WHEN A FIRE OCCURS, THE DEVICE WILL AFFORD NO
PROTECTION. FURTHERMORE, IN THE EVENT A DISCHARGE SHOULD OCCUR,
A LIGHTLY SECURED DOOR MAY BE SWUNG OPEN RAPIDLY, POSSIBLY CAUSING
INJURY OR DAMAGE. NEVER INSTALL IN A MANNER THAT RESULTS IN
THE EXTINGUISHER BEING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO EXCESSIVE HEAT
WHICH COULD CAUSE PREMATURE ACTUATION |
